Using and Modifying the Feedback Summary Report in Zoola Analytics

The Feedback module is an excellent choice for collecting feedback from your learners.  When you combine the Feedback module with Lambda (Zoola) Analytics, you have a way to analyze feedback across multiple courses and over time.  

The Feedback Summary is an out-of-the-box report that you can use immediately.  Go to Zoola Analytics>Reports>View existing, then search for “Feedback.”

This report shows feedback results by course, user, feedback module and question.  It also shows the time the feedback module was submitted. Out-of-the-box, you can filter this report by course category, course, feedback module, and date.

Here, I've filtered the report for one course: Gauging Engagement

Using the Filter Feature on the Report

In reviewing the Feedback data, you may want to filter your report for specific words or numbers. When viewing the report from the Zoola Reports block in the LMS, click on the header you would like to filter and select the filter icon. 

This allows you to filter the report the report for specific items to help you get a sense of patterns in responses. 

Here is an example where I've filtered the report for rows that contain the word, "good."




Modifying the Feedback Summary Report

If you have different requirements for the feedback report, then go to the Ad Hoc Views repository in Zoola and search for the Detailed Feedback Table View.  This is the base for the Feedback Summary report above. In the Ad Hoc View, you can add and remove columns and filters.

To modify an Ad Hoc View, right-click on the Detailed Feedback Table View and select duplicate:

Then double click on your new Ad Hoc View to go to the Ad Hoc View designer.  

Viewing Quantitative vs Qualitative Feedback

When collecting feedback, you may be collecting both qualitative and quantitative feedback, but when you are reviewing the results, you may want to review one type of feedback separately from another.  In this case, you could add the Question Type field to the filters so that you can filter by one or the other.  

Here I’ve filtered for text area and text fields so that I can focus on the qualitative data:


Security Files

Security files allow you to share reports that are secured for different audiences.  Out-of-the-box, the Feedback Summary report is already secured for Course managers, i.e., any Teacher role in Moodle or Trainer role in Totara Learn.  This means that when you share the Feedback Summary report in the Zoola reports block in your LMS, teachers will be able to view the report and only see the courses and students to which they are assigned.  

If you want to change the Security file, say to a Group level security then you need to do this at the Data Source level. 

Go to Data Sources>View existing and search for the Detailed Feedback Data Source.  Duplicate the data source by right-clicking on the name of the Data Source and selecting "Duplicate." Then on your new Data Source, right-click and go to Properties to relabel your Data Source with the new type of security.  This will help you out later when you create the Ad Hoc View.

Then right-click again on the Data Source and select Edit.  From the Data Source Designer panel, select the last tab on the top right: Options.

Here you will see the course manager security file.  Click on Replace Security File and then select the one you need.  Here I'm using the Group security file. 

Now, any Ad Hoc View or Report that you build on this Data Source will be secured.  This also means that you will need to rebuild any Ad Hoc View, so plan accordingly!
