Healthcare organizations face unique training challenges, particularly when their operations are spread across several institutions and they serve clients globally. iMedX, a 5,000 person integrated medical document management and health information solutions company serving medical professionals worldwide, and the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA), a health system comprised of four partner hospitals in Ontario, Canada, had a similar challenge. Both organizations needed to update their learning management systems (LMS) in order to progress.

Key Business Challenges and Solutions & Results

1. Outdated LMS and Lackluster Reporting

After building its own basic online learning platform that required a tremendous amount of hands-on management and continual maintenance, iMedX needed a SCORM-compliant solution that would eliminate wasted time, provide highly customizable reporting options and expert support. HPHA set about searching for a robust LMS to replace its old system to eliminate the hundreds of hours administrators were spending annually on inefficiencies.

Totara and Zoola Analytics. Totara’s reporting capabilities provided the question-level details iMedX had been struggling to access. Now users and trainers can easily review each question, and users can see all the correct answers. “Being able to do that in Totara was one of our biggest achievements—giving that level of detail,” said Rachel Jorgensen, iMedX Coding Support Manager. “Not only are the learners getting more out of their training, but the education team can now know which questions may have something wrong with them. Totara’s reports also make it easy to see how long each user is spending on a course, which has created opportunities for intervention and troubleshooting.”

For HPHA, Totara’s custom learning options now make it possible to create engaging and interactive learning experiences and the difference was apparent from day one. HPHA has incorporated their Twitter feed, upcoming calendar of courses, announcements, and links to multimedia. “I can do more with the classes when I create them,” said Kathy Powers, Corporate Lead, Training and Development at HPHA. “It’s not just reading a PDF and answering two questions. I can make learning more interesting, especially some of the topics that aren’t as interesting as others. Making it interactive has helped tremendously and we have no more disappearing courses!”

2. Needed to Track Compliance

Zoola Analytics compliance related dashboards and reports. With the certifications now housed in the system and having proper reporting, HPHA managers are immediately able to see who has completed certification and who hasn’t. If someone hasn’t completed certification, they can’t report to work. This helps ensure compliance 100% of the time.

3. Craved Better Vendor Support

Lambda Solutions’ Unlimited Support package. Both iMedX and HPHA had been disappointed with the support they received from other vendors. Kathy Powers from HPHA has peace of mind that they are well taken care of with Lambda Solutions. “It’s nice knowing I don’t have to nickel-and-dime my questions. Probably the number feature is your support team.” Rachel Jorgensen from iMedX cited quality of support as a deciding factor in choosing Lambda. “Your support is very timely,” she said. “If you team doesn’t have an answer, they are very good about doing everything they can to get it.”
